ABOUT ZUKA

RESTORED   PROTECTED   PRESERVED   WILD

Zuka Private Game Reserve is a living, integrated model of restoration, impact, and legacy.

Founded by Tara and Jessica Getty in 2001, Zuka is the cornerstone of a pioneering land assembly, born from a vision to return degraded land to thriving wilderness and to create a blueprint for long-term conservation success.

Today, it embodies a dynamic interplay of ecological restoration, community upliftment, and environmental stewardship – offering a model of what is possible when people and planet are in purposeful partnership.

Today, spanning 10,300 hectares of restored and protected wilderness in northern Zululand, a haven of biodiversity, Zuka supports a range of ecosystems and iconic species, including elephant, black rhino, white rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, and a myriad of birds, mammals, reptiles, and insects.

We are one of the three founding members of the 29,000-hectare Munywana Conservancy, which borders the 328,000-hectare iSimangaliso Wetland Park – South Africa’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Zuka has welcomed likeminded partnerships. Growing through the acquisitions of Nkonka, Bayala, and Mduna and the inclusion of neighbouring properties – Sungulwane and Fever Tree – under their independent ownership, reflects the shared commitment to a unified conservation vision.

Through Zuka Private Game Reserve, Tara and Jessica are committed to piloting and supporting initiatives that integrate environmental animal and marine conservation with rural social development.
